Oh my word. It was like pulling off my fingernails reading this book.
I was all fired up, being the entrepreneur that I am, reading about how these big sites made it, but most of them knew someone with money and said ” hey invest a quarter of a million dollars”
Or the person left their ten figure a month salary to start their new web venture then a week later sold shares for 2 billion. (Well that kind of thing.)
It actually made me feel discouraged. Oh apart from mumsnet which was a great story of two mums needing a site with advice from other mums instead of just ‘expert’ advice. Things like where’s a good child friendly hotel and stuff like that. They started with small change and grew it humbly.
Now I need a lighter book. On my list is ‘the shining girls’ Book by Lauren Beukes
The Shining Girls is a novel by South African author Lauren Beukes. The book centers around a time-traveling Depression-era drifter who must murder the “shining girls” in order to continue his travels.
